The scream, Edvard Munch, 1893
fear of failure
paralyses heart and mind
o, to be whole again
Someone listening to my reading of the poem heard the following:
fear of failure
paralyses art and mind
o, to be whole again
Have you a preference? I’d love to hear from you.
Heart would go with it..Nice one..

It is at least the expected juxtaposition.

As a writer I like the second. Fear of failure can paralyze your art as well as your mind. Hard to create when you can’t get the monsters out of your head.

I agree whole hardheartedly. Thanks.

Which is how I wrote it but my French accent brought the other one to the forefront.

Creativity can be paralyzed by fear. The unexpected juxtaposition of art and mind makes it grab me. I recognize that stuck, empty place.

I sure hear you Marilyn and like you I enjoy the unexpected juxtaposition. The surrealist would have called this an objective chance encounter (hasard objectif).

I kinda think they are synonymous… if you have art, you have heart in your life. : – )

Fear of failure is crippling along with fear of success.

You are right and I did consider both options before settling on failure.

I’d go with heart. If the heart is paralyzed, so is art, so that word choice makes it inclusive in a way…

They actually both work – but I know how paralyzing it can be…I’d choose the second.

Intéressant comme une (soi-disant) erreur de prononciation peut devenir débat philosophique! Tout comme atothewr, je reste sur la deuxième option. La question des démons qui nous empêchent d’avancer m’interpelle plus fortement.
A quand les prochains vers? 😉
